MEMBERSHIP FEES
ALL ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS ARE FREE
Membership renews annually. It's not automatic (it doesn't roll over) so will need to be renewed each year. It begins on the day you join.
There are currently 2 membership options in our community:
- Open Creative Membership (a seller account)
- Cheerful Community
Below we list more of what 's involved in a seller membership. What this doesn't really cover is the wealth of benefits you'll also receive just by becoming an active member in our community.
COMMISSION FEES
For members who wish to sell their art with us, Cheerful receives a gallery commission on the sales made through our platform and many sales channels.
Our commission reflects the services, or work, we do for you, so you can get on with the good work of creating!
That includes exhibiting your work online, advertising across as many as 20 digital & social media channels per ad we place, hosting & managing your account on our platform, and on social groups, hosting events, talks, researching the industry and sharing the best bits with you to develop your creative career, developing membership engagement and communities and managing all base costs.
Base costs include printing, sizing and framing, as well as the type of products being printed on (e.g. poster, canvas, cards etc), and shipping fees. We don't make any money from base costs or shipping costs.
Commission for an Original piece of art:

Commission for prints and unlimited reproductions:
We take 30% on reproductions & prints (after base production costs & shipping). So basically we have a 30/70% split with you on the prints we sell for you.
We know other platforms will typically offer you a 20% - 40% cut from base costs. We wanted to do better, and also allow you complete control of the price you feel your art is worth.
So once you choose the way you want to sell your work, so long as the manufacturing & shipping costs are covered, you can even, if you really wanted to, choose to make no profit at all!
PAYMENTS TO ARTISTS
Once you sell your art with us, you'll immediately receive an email & notification in your account section. So please make sure you keep your details with us up to date!
Payment is made as closely to one calendar month as is humanly possible, but typically no sooner than 28 days from customer purchase.
This is because we must allow customers their full rights under respective UK/EU laws (e.g. 30 day refund policy, returns & cooling-off period policies etc). These may be shorter or longer depending on their region. We also want to allow for shipping timescales as part of this calculation.
SALES & SHIPPING
We print and/or frame & ship all reproduction prints you upload to us. We will calculate realistic shipping costs at checkout. When we do this our platform automatically calculates shipping at sale.
We don't profit from shipping and if we ever offer free shipping promotions, we carry the costs.
We reserve the right to ship through our own preferred couriers and costs when we are shipping on your behalf.
Selling an original work will usually involve you having to organise shipping yourself since we are a virtual maker space. But if you need help, just get in touch.
When you ship an Original Piece directly, we will need disclosure of shipping costs prior to advertising it, so as to allow customers to calculate total sales costs easily.
NON SELLING MEMBERS
You are at the very heart of our community, and you shape Cheerful to become what it will be. So we hope you can take advantage of the benefits of your membership and also help us improve to add new aspects too.
Although you may not want to sell your work, you may still be a really creative person and want to share your creations. For this we have several options:
- you can share pieces in the members areas (private/members only)
- you can share them in our groups online.
- you can enter specific seasonal or topical exhibitions, as well as competitions, shows and events.
As we grow, we know we will need to curate more and more gallery spaces, so we will always be on the look out for those members who participate and would like to manage a gallery space too.
