Inspiration:Â Interpreting, contemplation, watchfulness, left behind
Â
Description
Time and contemplation are the subject of this oil on canvas piece where a lone figure stands in poignant silhouette beside the weathered remains of a once majestic tree. The tree, a silent witness to self righteousness in ages past, recalls the inevitable passage of all earthly things.  Measuring 1 meter by 60 centimeters, this original piece reimagines the Lord's rebuke to the Pharisees who should have been able, had they so wanted, to interpret the signs of the coming Messiah. Here the artist challenges this present age to meditate on the return of that same Messiah as King, and what this will mean to those who also miss the signs so freely given to them. A provocative and challenging piece of art, like its inspiration, lying more deeply behind the obvious.
"When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, 'It's going to rain,' and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, 'It's going to be hot,' and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time?"
Luke 12:54-56
